Canon PIXMA TS3522 Setup & WiFi Connection Guide

Setting up your Canon PIXMA TS3522 via ij.start.canon takes about 15 minutes when you know the steps. This guide covers three WiFi connection methods, driver installation for Windows 11 and macOS, mobile printing, and every error code from E02 to E09 — with specific fixes for each. If your TS3522 is not connecting to WiFi, there is one thing most guides never mention: this printer only works on 2.4 GHz networks. We cover that and every other common failure point below. For a complete walkthrough of the ij.start.canon portal that works across all Canon models, see our main ij.start.canon setup guide.

Before You Start — 60-Second Checklist

  • Power cord plugged in, printer turned ON
  • All orange packing tape removed from inside and outside the printer
  • PG-275 (black) and CL-276 (colour) cartridges seated until they click
  • Plain A4 or Letter paper loaded in the rear tray
  • Your WiFi password ready (case-sensitive)
  • Your router is broadcasting a 2.4 GHz band (the TS3522 does not connect to 5 GHz)

METHOD 1WiFi Setup via ij.start.canon & Canon PRINT App

This is the recommended method for first-time setup. It uses Canon's own app to walk you through the WiFi connection step by step, then sends you to ij.start.canon to download the full driver package for your computer.

Canadian users on Bell, Rogers, or Telus: Most Canadian ISP-supplied routers broadcast both 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz under a single network name. If your printer fails to connect, log into your router admin panel and verify that the 2.4 GHz band is enabled separately. The TS3522 will not connect to the 5 GHz band under any circumstances.

On Your Phone First (iOS or Android)

  1. Download Canon PRINT Inkjet/SELPHY from the App Store (iOS) or Google Play (Android).
  2. Open the app and tap Set Up for First Time Use at the bottom of the screen.
  3. When asked how the printer is connected, select Via Wi-Fi.
  4. On the printer itself, press and hold the WiFi button (the one with the antenna icon) for about 3 seconds until the WiFi lamp starts flashing rapidly.
  5. Back in the app, tap Connect. The app will detect the printer broadcasting in setup mode.
  6. Select your 2.4 GHz WiFi network from the list and enter your password. The app transfers the credentials to the printer wirelessly.
  7. The WiFi lamp on the printer will flash slowly during connection, then go solid when connected. This takes about 60 seconds.
  8. The app confirms "Printer connected to network." Your printer is now on WiFi.

Then on Your Computer

  1. Open your browser and go to ij.start.canon (confirm the address bar shows exactly this — ending in .canon).
  2. Click Set Up, type TS3522 in the search box, and press Enter.
  3. Select your operating system and download the Full Software Package for complete printing and scanning functionality.
  4. Open the downloaded file and follow the on-screen installer. When it asks for connection type, choose Wireless LAN — the installer will find your printer on the network automatically.
  5. Print a test page when prompted to confirm everything is working.
Tip: The Full Software Package also installs IJ Scan Utility, which you will need to use the flatbed scanner. If you download Drivers Only, scanning from your computer will not work.

METHOD 2WPS Button — Fastest Connection Method

If your router has a physical WPS button (most routers sold in the US and Canada do), this is the quickest way to connect. No app, no password entry — the router and printer exchange credentials automatically. The whole process takes under 2 minutes.

Check first: Some routers — particularly older units and those supplied by Canadian ISPs — have WPS disabled by default in the admin panel. If this method fails, use Method 1 instead.
  1. Make sure your printer is on and paper is loaded. Do not start this on a printer that just powered on — wait 30 seconds for it to fully initialise.
  2. On the printer, press and hold the WiFi button until the WiFi lamp starts flashing (about 3 seconds), then release.
  3. Immediately press the Color button once, then press the WiFi button again. The network lamp will also start flashing — this means the printer is in WPS mode and waiting.
  4. Within 2 minutes, go to your router and press the WPS button (usually on the back or side, labelled WPS). Hold it for 2–3 seconds.
  5. Both the printer WiFi lamp and your router's WPS indicator will flash during pairing. When the WiFi lamp on the printer goes solid, the connection is complete.
  6. Go back to ij.start.canon on your computer and download the driver as described in Method 1, Step 2 onward.
If the WPS connection times out: The printer only waits 2 minutes for a router response. If you miss the window, the lamps will stop flashing and return to normal. Simply start again from Step 2.

METHOD 3USB Cable Setup — Windows Fallback

If WiFi setup is consistently failing, using a USB cable to set up the printer first is the most reliable fallback. Once drivers are installed via USB, you can then switch the printer to wireless. This method works on Windows only — macOS users should use AirPrint (see the Drivers section).

  1. Connect the printer to your Windows computer using a standard USB-A to USB-B cable (not included in the box — most people have one from an older printer or device).
  2. Windows will detect the printer and may attempt to install a basic driver automatically. Wait for this to complete before proceeding.
  3. Visit ij.start.canon, search for TS3522, and download the Full Software Package for Windows.
  4. Run the installer. When it asks for connection type, select USB Connection.
  5. Complete the installation. Your printer is now fully functional via USB.
  6. To switch to WiFi: open the Canon IJ Network Tool (installed with the Full Package), select your printer, and choose Change Wireless Connection. Follow the wizard to enter your WiFi credentials.
Once WiFi is set up, you can disconnect the USB cable. The printer will use the wireless connection going forward.

Download & Install Drivers — Windows 11 & macOS

Regardless of which WiFi method you used, you need the right driver on your computer to print. Here is exactly what to do on each platform.

🪟 Windows 10 & Windows 11

  1. Go to ij.start.canon
  2. Search TS3522, select Windows
  3. Download Full Software Package (.exe file)
  4. Right-click the .exe and select Run as administrator
  5. Choose Wireless LAN Connection
  6. The installer finds the printer on your network automatically
  7. Print a test page when prompted
Windows 11 note: If the installer shows a security warning, click More info then Run anyway. This is expected for third-party installer packages on Windows 11.

🍎 macOS (Ventura, Sonoma, Sequoia)

  1. No driver download needed — the TS3522 uses AirPrint
  2. Make sure printer and Mac are on the same WiFi
  3. Go to System Settings > Printers & Scanners
  4. Click the + button to add a printer
  5. Select Canon TS3500 series from the list
  6. Click Add — that is all
macOS note: For scanning on macOS, download the IJ Scan Utility Lite from the Mac App Store — it is free and works without a full driver install.

Mobile Printing — iPhone, iPad & Android

The TS3522 supports wireless printing directly from your phone without any extra setup beyond connecting it to WiFi.

📱 iPhone & iPad (AirPrint)

  1. Open any document, photo, or webpage
  2. Tap the Share icon (box with upward arrow)
  3. Scroll down and tap Print
  4. Tap Printer and select Canon TS3500 series
  5. Set copies, paper size, and colour settings
  6. Tap Print in the top right

🤖 Android (Canon PRINT App)

  1. Open the Canon PRINT Inkjet/SELPHY app
  2. Tap Photo Print, Document Print, or Cloud Print
  3. Select your file and tap the printer icon
  4. Choose Canon TS3500 series if prompted
  5. Adjust settings and tap Print
Mopria support: Android also supports printing directly from most apps via the Mopria Print Service, without needing the Canon app.

Reconnecting After a WiFi or Router Change

Changed your router, switched ISPs, or moved to a new home? The TS3522 stores only one WiFi network at a time. You need to clear the old network and reconnect from scratch. This is one of the most common questions we get, and the process is straightforward.

  1. Reset the printer's wireless settings: Press and hold the WiFi button for 5 seconds until the WiFi lamp flashes 3 times. Release. The stored network is now cleared.
  2. Wait 30 seconds for the printer to restart its wireless module.
  3. Set up WiFi again using any of the three methods above (Method 1 via the Canon PRINT app is easiest for reconnection).
  4. Once connected to the new network, go to Printers & Scanners on your computer, remove the existing Canon TS3500 entry, and add it again. This forces your computer to find the printer at its new network address.
Prevent the offline problem permanently: Log into your router admin panel and assign a static (fixed) IP address to the printer using its MAC address. This ensures your computer always finds the printer at the same address, even after router restarts.

Canon TS3522 Not Connecting to WiFi — 7 Fixes

Work through these in order. Most WiFi connection failures are solved by Fix 1 or Fix 2.

  • 1 Your router is 5 GHz only — the most common cause

The TS3522 only connects to 2.4 GHz WiFi. Many modern routers advertise only one network name but actually run both bands. If setup consistently fails, log into your router admin panel (usually at 192.168.0.1 or 192.168.1.1) and confirm the 2.4 GHz band is enabled and broadcasting a visible SSID.

  • 2 Wrong WiFi password entered

WiFi passwords are case-sensitive. A capital O and the number 0 look identical in some fonts. Re-enter your password carefully. If using the Canon PRINT app, tap the eye icon to reveal what you typed before confirming.

  • 3 Printer too far from the router

Bring the printer within 5 feet of your router during initial setup. Once connected you can move it back. Walls and appliances weaken the signal during the initial handshake.

  • 4 Printer not fully in setup mode

The WiFi lamp must be flashing rapidly before the app will find the printer. If it is solid or off, the printer is not in pairing mode. Press and hold the WiFi button for 3 seconds and confirm the lamp starts flashing before tapping Connect in the app.

  • 5 Router's MAC address filtering is blocking the printer

If your router has MAC address filtering enabled, any unrecognised device (including your new printer) will be blocked. Log into your router admin panel, find the printer's MAC address in the blocked devices list, and allow it. The printer's MAC address is printed on a label on the bottom of the unit.

  • 6 Phone connected to 5 GHz during app setup

When using the Canon PRINT app, your phone must be connected to the same 2.4 GHz band you want the printer on. If your phone auto-connects to 5 GHz, manually switch it to the 2.4 GHz network in your phone's WiFi settings before running setup.

  • 7 Network settings corrupted — factory reset the printer

If nothing else works, reset the printer to factory settings. Press and hold the Stop button for 10 seconds until the alarm lamp flashes 15 times. Release. The printer will restart with all settings cleared. Start setup from scratch using Method 1.

Canon PIXMA TS3522 Error Codes — Complete Table

The TS3522 displays E-codes (everyday errors you can fix yourself) and P-codes (hardware errors that usually require service). Here is every code with the exact fix.

Code Cause Fix
E02 Easy fix No paper in rear tray, or paper fed incorrectly Fan out a stack of plain paper, tap it on a flat surface to align the edges, and reload into the rear tray. Slide the paper guide snug against the stack without squeezing it. Press the Black or Colour button to resume.
E03 Easy fix Paper jam — or front cover open during printing Remove all paper from the tray. Open the front cover fully and look for any torn scraps inside — even a small piece will trigger E03 repeatedly. Close the cover firmly until it clicks. Press Black or Colour button. If E03 appears with no visible jam: unplug the printer from the wall for 60 seconds, then restart. This is a known TS3522 issue reported in Canon's own community forum.
E04 Easy fix Ink cartridge not installed or not recognised Open the front cover and press down firmly on both cartridges until each one clicks. Close the cover. If E04 persists, remove both cartridges, wait 30 seconds, and reinstall them. Check that orange protective tape was removed from each cartridge before installation.
E05 Easy fix Wrong cartridge installed, or cartridge contacts dirty Confirm you have PG-275 (black) and CL-276 (colour) installed. If the cartridges are correct, remove them and use a dry lint-free cloth to gently clean the gold contacts on the cartridge and the corresponding contacts inside the printer. Reinstall and press firmly until they click.
E06 Easy fix Front cover (paper output tray) is open Close the paper output cover completely. The printer will resume automatically. If the cover looks closed but E06 persists, open and firmly close it again — the latch mechanism needs to fully engage.
E07 Easy fix Cartridge installed in wrong slot The PG-275 black cartridge goes in the right slot and the CL-276 colour cartridge goes in the left slot. Remove both, switch positions, press firmly until each clicks.
E08 Easy fix Ink absorber almost full The ink absorber collects excess ink from cleaning cycles. E08 is a warning — the printer still works. Press the Black or Colour button to dismiss and continue printing. When it becomes E09, see below. Note that once the absorber is full, Canon considers the printer end-of-life.
E09 May need service Ink absorber full The printer will stop printing. You can use a free third-party tool called WIC Reset Utility to reset the absorber counter, which allows temporary continued use. However, the physical absorber pad will eventually overflow. Canon's official recommendation is to contact support for a service option.
P02 / 5100 May need service Carriage jam — print head cannot move freely Turn off the printer and unplug it. Open the front cover and look for paper, a cartridge that came loose, or a foreign object blocking the carriage rail. Gently clear the obstruction. Plug in and restart. If P02 returns consistently, the encoder strip may need cleaning — wipe it gently with a lint-free cloth dampened with water.
P07 / 5B00 May need service Ink absorber completely full (different from E09) This code stops all printing permanently until the absorber counter is reset. The WIC Reset Utility (free) can reset the counter. The printer will function again but the physical pad is still saturated. This code on a budget printer like the TS3522 often means it is time to replace the unit.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • No. The TS3522 supports 2.4 GHz only. This is the single most common reason people cannot connect the printer during setup. If your router broadcasts both bands under one name (common with newer routers and Canadian ISP equipment), you may need to log into your router settings and enable a separate 2.4 GHz SSID.
  • The TS3522 uses PG-275 for black and CL-276 for colour. XL versions — PG-275XL and CL-276XL — are also fully compatible and give you roughly double the page yield per cartridge, making them better value for regular printing. Both are available at Walmart, Target, Best Buy, Staples, and Amazon US and Canada.
  • Press and hold the WiFi button for 5 seconds until the WiFi lamp flashes 3 times. This clears the stored network. Then set up again using Method 1 (Canon PRINT app) or Method 2 (WPS button). Also remove and re-add the printer in your computer's Printers & Scanners settings so it finds the new network address.
  • E03 means the printer detected something blocking the paper path — but sometimes the detection is triggered even when there is no visible jam. This happens when a small torn piece of paper is stuck inside, or when the front cover latch is not fully engaged. Open the front cover completely, look inside with a flashlight, remove any scraps, close it firmly until you hear it click, and then unplug the printer for 60 seconds before restarting. This resolves the phantom E03 in most cases.
  • Yes. The TS3522 supports AirPrint, which is built into every Mac. Connect the printer to WiFi, then go to System Settings > Printers & Scanners, click the + button, and select the Canon TS3500 series from the list. No download from ij.start.canon is needed for basic printing. For scanning, install the free IJ Scan Utility Lite from the Mac App Store.
  • This usually happens when the printer gets a new IP address from your router after a restart, but your computer still has the old address saved. The fix: go to Printers & Scanners on your computer, remove the Canon TS3500 entry, and add it again. For a permanent fix, assign the printer a static IP address in your router's admin panel using the printer's MAC address (found on the label on the bottom of the unit).
  • No. All drivers and software are available for free at ij.start.canon. Retail units sold at Walmart, Best Buy, Costco, and other US and Canadian retailers no longer include a setup CD. Everything you need is online.
  • Full Software Package includes the print driver, IJ Scan Utility (for scanning), My Image Garden (photo organiser), and the Canon IJ Network Tool. Drivers Only installs just the core print driver — scanning from your computer will not work. For home use, always choose Full Software Package.
