Canon PIXMA TR4720 Wi-Fi Setup: Menu Steps That Work
The TR4720 (and TR4722) has a small menu screen, so unlike button-only PIXMAs you can type your Wi-Fi password directly on the printer. This guide walks through each method with the menu names Canon uses on this model.
In This Guide
Before You Start
- Canon’s TR4720 setup notes say the printer must join a 2.4 GHz network. If your router shows separate 2.4 and 5 GHz names, pick the 2.4 GHz one.
- The password is case-sensitive. Use the keypad’s mode switch to change between letters, numbers and symbols.
- Keep the printer near the router during setup.
Choose a Method
| Method | Best for | Where on the printer |
|---|---|---|
| Manual connect | Most homes; you know the password | Setup → Wi-Fi setup → Manual connect |
| WPS (Push button) | Routers with a WPS button | Wi-Fi setup → WPS (Push button) |
| Easy wireless connect + Canon PRINT app | Setting up from a phone | Start from the app; it guides the printer step |
| Computer installer | Printing mainly from Windows/Mac | Run Canon setup software for the TR4700 series |
Method 1: Manual Connect on the Printer
- Press the Setup button.
- Select Wi-Fi setup, then Manual connect.
- Select your network name (SSID) from the list. If it is not listed, move closer to the router and search again.
- Enter the Wi-Fi password using the keypad and confirm.
- When the connected message appears, confirm, then install the driver or app on your devices.
Method 2: WPS Push Button
- Press Setup and select Wi-Fi setup.
- Choose WPS (Push button) and follow the screen prompt.
- Press and hold the WPS button on your router within the time shown.
- Wait for the connected message, then install the driver on your computers.
Method 3: Phone Setup With Canon PRINT
Install the Canon PRINT app (Canon PRINT Inkjet/SELPHY on older app versions), tap to add a printer and follow the prompts. The app uses Canon’s Easy wireless connect method to pass your Wi-Fi details to the printer. If the app asks you to start setup on the printer, follow its on-screen printer instructions for the TR4700 series.
Confirm and Troubleshoot
Print the printer’s network information from the LAN settings menu (Print LAN details) to check the connected network name, signal and IP address.
| Problem | Likely cause | Fix |
|---|---|---|
| Your network is not in the list | 5 GHz-only network, or too far from router | Use the 2.4 GHz network; move closer |
| Password rejected | Case or symbol entered wrongly | Re-enter carefully; check the keypad mode |
| Connected but computer cannot find it | VPN, firewall, guest network, or different band/subnet | Same network for both, VPN off, see offline guide |
| Connected to an old router | Settings from a previous network | Reset the LAN settings from the Device settings menu (Reset setting) and set up again |
